Earlier this year, stuck in a lockdown which seemed to be going on for ever, I decided it’d be no bad thing to learn some new skills. All my videos to date had been pretty basic: captions topping and tailing footage of me reading my poem to camera. How hard would it be to film short clips and splice them together to accompany an audio track instead? I decided to find out.
The result, a video of my poem Hometown Madonna, has just been shortlisted for the Bread & Roses ‘Voices from a pandemic’ award. Not bad for a first attempt. I’m really looking forward to seeing the winning videos – and the other shortlisted ones. Meanwhile, the Hometown Madonna video is up on Youtube (click on the poem name to go there). Have a look for yourself and see what you think.
I may have another go at this lark in the future. Watch this space.
