poets and players

Whisper it quietly, but I’m having a bit of a year when it comes to poetry. One poem shortlisted in the Verve poetry comp, and now another awarded joint second place in Poets & Players. Last Saturday I headed up to Manchester – in glorious late Spring sunshine, no less – to read my winning poem (and a couple of others) at the Anthony Burgess Foundation. This also meant I got to enjoy sets from poets Sara-Jane Arbury (joint 2nd) and Laura Theis (1st place) as well as the competition judge Philip Gross. What’s not to like?

The poems by Laura and Sara-Jane are just wonderful, and as Poets and Players have put together a video of each of us reading our winning poems, why not make yourself a cuppa and enjoy them here. Then go and check out more work by Laura and Sara-Jane. Trust me, it’s worth it.
